“Nato a Venezia” by Koen Vanmechelen was an official collateral event of the 54th Biennale of Venice.

Inside the walls of one of the main centers of Venetian culture and knowledge, Koen Vanmechelen presents “Nato a Venezia, Open University of Diversity” a “laboratory” on the borderline of art and science. In an open study, the visitors are actively invited to take part in different research projects on biological and cultural diversity that are conducted by the researchers on site.

Further, the artist underlines the continuation of his decade-long artistic cross-breeding project by giving birth to a new generation in the “Cosmopolitan Chicken Project”. Intellectual and natural breeding come together in one installation in an attempt to stimulate the discussion on cultural and biological diversity, cosmopolitanism, mingling and mixing as the keys to development and progress.

The technology that makes this work possible was conceived, developed and installed on site by Culture Crew. This involved, amongst other things:

  • website development
  • computer programming
  • network administration
  • video capturing, -streaming & -projection
  • electrical installation
  • mechanical construction
  • project management

By combining all these areas of expertise, Culture Crew was able to provide an end-to-end solution for the artist. More information about this work can be found on www.ccrp.be.
